Materials Needed:

1 Substrate is of 6" diameter sonotube. 2 Base coat sonotube with tinted Tough Prime. 3 Make bark texture: Mix course sawdust with Off Broadway Umber/FlexBond solution (use 1 part of Off Broadway to 2 parts Flexbond). 4 Apply sawdust mix on sonotube to imitate tree bark (keeping vertical feel). 5 Let dry thouroughly. 6 Two color scumble base coat. 7 Multiple spatters over entire surface. 8 Drop in bark shadow color to accentuate deep texture. 9 Dry brush light selectively over surface. 10 Dry brush mossy green selectively over surface.

Tough Prime
A water-based primer often used for the hard-to-prime scenic materials found in every
scene shop. Tough Prime adheres to just about any surface, including PVC pipe, aluminum,
foams and plastics, as well as muslin, wood and foam core. This quick drying acrylic
emulsion primer dries to a tough, durable coating which can be painted over with any paint
and is excellent for both interior and exterior use.
Off Broadway scenic paint
Perhaps the most widely used range of scenic paint in the world, Off Broadway is specially
suited to the multiple demands of scene shops and artists. This vinyl acrylic product may
be used right out of the container, or mixed with water for greater economy. There are
more than 20 colon in the traditional scenic palette, including three metallic colors. Off
Broadway adheres well to nearly all the surfaces used in stagecraft.
Flexbond
A clear, flexible scenic glue which bonds many porous and nonporous scenic materials.
FlexBond is also often mixed with Foamcoat. When used alone as a glue, it dries to a
clear, hard, yet pliable coating that does not suffer from the "tackiness"
common in many other flexible glues. unlike ordinary "white" glues, which crack
and break when flexed, the adhesive bond of FlexBond remains extremely pliable and strong
even as the material bends and deforms
