October isn’t just ghouls and goblins all month – it’s a time of recognition, of reflection, of observance and awareness.
Sure, there are awareness campaigns throughout the year, but October is a big month of observance for a wide range of causes from Go Pink for the Cure, to Rare Disease Awareness Day, and a heap of other days in recognition of various medical conditions.
So how can you do your part in raising awareness?

For colored light, some hues may be difficult to replicate, as it's not found in every light output available. Take pink for example; there are a number of factors that influence what "the right pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness is, including: the hue of pink you desire, the spectral output of the light fixtures and whether or not the gel sheet can survive as long as needed when installed on the light source.
Most architectural lighting used to showcase a building’s exterior are either metal halide or sodium vapor lighting which have varying spectral outputs from one another. Metal halide is viewed as a 'white light' that has some spikes in the blue and the green fields. Sodium vapor fixtures are very yellow with a high green spike. Please note: a color filter cannot put color into a light source that isn't already within its spectral output. Some form of pink light needs to be in the spectrum or you will not get the result you're after when applying your desired gel color.

Red - AIDS, Heart Disease - Lux 26 or 2001
Yellow - Armed forces return, Bone Cancer, Cancer survivors - Lux 12, 4590, 2003.
There are far more comprehensive lists available online, so show your support, and light up the night to increase awareness or to raise money for the causes that are close to your home.
