Bring on the Games

Bring on the Games

It’s the countdown to the 2014 Winter Olympics here at the StageSpot offices. While we are not competing in anything more challenging than who can check in inventory the best, we are excited. Whether you plan to watch the opening ceremony or throw a party to celebrate diversity, StageSpot has what you need to make it extra special.

These are phenomenal party supplies. Yes, they are just small pieces of gel, just cut into rectangles and attached together at a point. If your party has more than two theme colors and you’re not quite sure if an entirely red or blue or whatever color you pick room is suitable, try bite-sized décor. Gel can be rolled up and taped to make a great abstract display. We are fond of the Olympic Rings as a great party inspiration. Classic design can be a great inspiration. You can even use the non-Olympic colors to make small pom-poms to cheer on the athletes.

Spike Tape
Taking a page from the Stage Managers around here (and Props Masters) you could tape outline the kitchen counter for proper snack placement. You can even write on the tape to note what snack is gluten-free. While we often recommend console tape for such purposes, spike tape comes in many colors. It will also stay a bit better if your accident-prone friend keeps tipping over the punch.  This is also a great way to layout that curling course in the house.  It will stick well and come up clean once the games are done.

Another favorite, spike tape in electric blue, black, red, yellow, and fluorescent green can be laid out as a table decoration and/or prize for the winner of your Olympic trivia contest.

Don’t forget, tech Olympics are always a great way to test skill and knowledge.  If your show is up and running, take some time out to start a little friendly competition backstage during your down time. Popular events include speed light hanging, don’t forget your ratcheting tool; knot tying, all you need is some tie line; and taping out a ground plan with some 1/2in gaff tape.

StageSpot carries fog machines and strobe lights if you decide to chuck it all and throw a disco party instead. Darklight gobo projectors are small enough you could have an accent wall with your favorite sport projected.  If you felt you missed out on the confetti drop during the Super Bowl this year, we have confetti cannons for you as well (just don’t use them in your apartment please). The possibilities are nearly endless. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
