Cleaning up in Autumn

Cleaning up in Autumn
Thanksgiving seems to begin the holiday season these days and stores are already blaring out Christmas carols on loop. As winter break fast approaches, we’re compiling our yearend to do lists. Deep cleaning is something we keep putting off, but should get around to before we pull out all the gear for the New Year’s parties.Theater Silvestergala 2009Photo by Theatre Purkersdorf CC BY SA 2.0If you have dance floor, deep cleaning it once or twice a year is highly recommended to extend the life of the floor and value to your investment. Right before a few days break is a great time to clear off the floor, rip up the marley tape (it’s been looking a little shoddy thanks to dancers actually dancing), and bust out the heavy duty floor cleaner. Once the floor is dry, re-tape and turn up the beat to get dancing again. Medusa Mop. One wonderful aspect to investing in quality lighting fixtures is parts are usually available. When things inevitably break down (and often during a show, thank you Murphy’s law), harvesting parts out of “zombie” lighting fixtures might be a crunch time necessity. Now is a great time to do an inventory update. Grab all the zombie fixtures out from their storage cupboard and figure out just which lighting fixture is missing what part. StageSpot carries a wide variety of lighting instrument parts be the ETC Source Four parts, Altman parts, or others. While the lighting fixtures are out of their dusty storage, it’s a great time to bench focus as many fixtures as you can to ensure everything stays in good working order. A good bench focus can help extend the life of your expendables, such as theatrical lighting gel sheets and steel gobos.Sometimes after a good clean, fix up and focus, we find our lighting inventory has expanded to include many more lighting fixtures than we anticipated. Good news is great to come by before winter break. Thinking about scheduling these big maintenance projects now helps fill the calendar between productions. If you need help finding parts or advice on floor cleaning, don’t forget to call us, your friends in the entertainment business. StageSpot is also available via email, fax, and chat.
