This all-purpose fabric has been a staple in the theater and film world for decades.  Whether you are skirting a platform or blocking light bleed from your electrics, every theater needs to have one bolt laying around for emergency use.

Duvetyn is a heavy black opaque fabric usually made from cotton or wool. In our industry it is usually treated by the manufacturer to be fire retardant, but can also be treated in house with
Rosco Flamex. The matte finish on this twill fabric keeps it from reflecting any light, making it the perfect material to mask off the set.
This fabric is easily affixed often using the stagehands fix all,
gaff tape. These two go hand in hand covering up those unsightly areas that just need to be covered for that one event.

Yes, slightly fuzzy tape is fantastic for fixing small tears in curtains.
If you want your tape to look exactly like your duve, try using
duve tape. This tape is backed with matte black polyester felt to make it look more like the duvetyn fabric. This is great for repairing any tears in the fabric especially if its being used as a stage curtain that can be viewed by they audience.
We at
StageSpot are happy to lend a hand making those tidying up projects a bit quicker. The next time you need a quick curtain, don’t forget the duvetyn.
